construction cost: £700,000 project stage: completed
challenging... occupying a 63m long, 8m wide former bakery in kemp town, brighton and having having little street access the scheme successfully creates a mixed use development that provides contermporart commercial and traditional residential units of the length of a steeply sloping site, hemmed in on all sides by residential gardens.
a number of issues that were address and overcome in this contentious urban infill included; asbestos removal, poor ground conditions and twenty-two separate party wall awards.
innovative fixing methods were used to fix insulated panels along boundary walls, light tubes were used to ensure good levels of natural light were achieved in all commercial units, and a communal south facing garden was provided to ensure all residents had access to outside space.
