close to home... this backlands development is located on a steeply sloping site, surrounded on all sides by residential properties. the scheme is to replace existing workshops and office buildings with dedicated office space that steps down the site beneath a planted roof to minimise the impact on the surrounding properties and improve the outlook from upper storey windows.
the workspace will be lit via rooflights to minimise the requirement for mechanical lighting and a natural ventilation system will be used to prevent the need for air conditioning when the building in use. combined with the green roof, development of a brownfield site, high levels of insulation, low water consumption and high efficacy lighting this will be an environmentally responsible building.
