The current recording studio is situated in an existing industrial building laid out over a number of floors with large areas of circulation and redundant unusable space. The design brief was to create a mixed use facility providing a state of the art recording studio, flexible office space and live / work units that retained as much of the existing buildings as possible
Following close consultation with the local Planning and Conservation Departments, it was decided the courtyard buildings were of little practical or architectural value and could be demolished and the main structure retained and reorganised to provide more useable space. The courtyard building was designed as a lightweight infill structure centred around a glazed atrium space, that could provide recording studios and flexible office spaces for small local business and recording artists.
