environmental policy
commited to sustainable architecture
farmiloe architects is a well-established, brighton-based architectural practice representing a broad range of commercial, industrial and domestic clients for whom it designs and delivers bespoke buildings or expert adaptations.
the company accepts that the way in which buildings and the built environment are created, adapted and managed plays an important role in human impact on the natural environment and quality of life, and can heavily influence the health and safety of building occupiers.
for this reason, farmiloe architects recognises that its chosen sphere of operations is of particular relevance to the environment and places a burden of corporate social responsibility on us over and above the need to achieve commercial success.
the company has, therefore, made a conscious policy decision to pursue the goal of environmental and social sustainability as a key, ever-present function in its practices and professional responsibilities.
in this way, we seek to maximise the beneficial effects arising from environmentally-sensitive architectural design while at the same time being aware of the need to minimise any possible negative impacts of our work on the environment.
we will do this by:
o carrying out our professional obligations in such a way that an ethical consideration for the environment is given equal weight alongside all other requirements, including commercial success.
o keeping ourselves informed of all relevant environmental legislation and industry standards and ensuring that this knowledge bank is regularly updated and routinely applied to all our work.
o being aware of environmental sensitivities in our purchasing policies by specifying materials and services with minimal impact on the environment.
o enthusiastically researching and specifying proven new environmental technologies whenever practical and relevant.
o acting as a ‘green partner’ to our clients by freely offering them advice and assistance in making decisions and choices in favour of the environment (e.g. in the selection of building materials, energy efficiency measures etc.) and actively encouraging them to adopt these choices.
o being aware of the possible impact on the natural world and bio-diversity of our projects and taking all steps to ensure that the siting and design of them does not lead to environmental compromise.
o supporting and respecting local environmental initiatives and concerns in those areas in which the work we do could impact.
o ensuring that on-site building practices on which we can exert a direct influence are carried out in a sustainable way (e.g. operation of an appropriate materials waste minimisation and recycling programme by the appointed contractor).
by publicly commiting ourselves to these objectives, farmiloe architects seeks to demonstrate its acceptance of the view that sustainable architectural design should integrate a consideration for resource and energy efficiency, healthy buildings and materials, ecologically and socially-sensitive land-use and aesthetic considerations.
